Focus Teacher- New Jersey Campus

Winston Preparatory School is searching for excellent candidates for a full-time Focus Teacher at the New Jersey Whippany (Morris County) campus. This position is for the 2024-2025 academic year. Below is some background information regarding our school and the available position.
 
Winston Preparatory School is a co-ed private day school for 4-12th-grade students with learning differences such as dyslexia, nonverbal learning disabilities, expressive or receptive language disorders, and executive functioning difficulties. Our unique educational program for students with learning differences is designed to develop essential skills and challenge their strengths. Within our highly successful Focus Program, each student receives a daily period of one-to-one instruction concentrating on their greatest area of need. The implementation of the program has allowed us to personalize instruction and strategies further so that our students can better understand themselves, as well as verbalize their needs to become independent learners.
Focus Program teachers provide individualized remediation for students struggling with a wide range of learning differences while coordinating and facilitating consistent communication between classroom teachers and families. 
 
Essential Tasks

  • Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students in a positive environment
  • Instruct students in their greatest areas of need using a variety of techniques such as multi-sensory learning and repetition to reinforce learning and to meet students’ varying needs and interests
  • Teach students in a 1:1 setting
  • Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all students
  • Meet with parents to discuss their children’s progress and to determine priorities for their children and their individualized educational needs
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports on children and activities, as required by laws, school policies, and administrative regulations
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students
  • Maintain professional competence by participating in staff development activities, curriculum development meetings, and other professional opportunities
  • Perform related work as required

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Special Education teaching experience
  • Learning Specialist, Reading Specialist, and Speech-Language Pathologist background strongly preferred
  • Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Highly professional, creative thinker who is flexible and works well within a team environment 
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Meet, and Classroom
