Focus Teacher - Long Island Campus

Winston Preparatory School’s Dix Hills, LI campus is searching for inquisitive, dedicated candidates for a full-time Focus Teacher for immediate consideration. Ideally, candidates will have a background in reading instruction or speech language-pathology. Additional background information regarding our school follows.
 
Winston Preparatory School is a co-ed day school for 3rd through 12th grade students with learning differences such as dyslexia, nonverbal learning disabilities, expressive or receptive language disorders and executive functioning challenges. Our mission is to facilitate the independence of individuals with learning difficulties through assessment-driven individualized education, research and outreach.
Our unique educational program for 3rd-12th grade students with learning differences is designed to develop essential skills and challenge his or her strengths. As part of our learning program, every student benefits from the Focus Program, in which each student receives a daily period of one-to-one instruction concentrating on his or her greatest area of need. The implementation of the program allows us to further personalize instruction and strategies so that our students can better understand themselves, as well as verbalize their needs to become independent learners.
 
Focus teachers provide daily individualized, 1:1 remediation for students struggling with a wide-range of learning differences, while coordinating and facilitating consistent communication between classroom teachers and families. 
 
The successful candidate will be a creative thinker who is flexible and works well within a team environment. Candidates should possess skilled written and communication abilities and welcome an autonomous role, yet be open to professional support and feedback.

Currently, WPSLI faculty includes reading specialists, speech-language pathologists, learning specialists, school counselors, as well as art therapists and special education teachers.
