For students with learning differences, wellness is especially important for academic and social-emotional development. That’s why wellness is interwoven into all aspects of our approach at Winston Prep. Equally important is the wellness of our entire school community, including the educators who guide and support our students every day. We foster a culture of care that promotes balance, reflection, and collaboration, recognizing that when teachers and staff feel supported, they are better equipped to meet the diverse needs of each student. By prioritizing wellness at every level, we create an environment where all members of our community can grow, connect, and thrive.

Wellness & Digital Citizenship
A recent survey highlighted growing concerns among parents nationwide regarding social media and digital citizenship. To proactively support our students, we’ve expanded our relationship with Common Sense Media over the years, offering insightful webinars for parents, comprehensive Digital Citizenship lessons for students, and engaging professional development opportunities for our faculty.
What started as a nationwide survey on well-being in the independent school community has evolved into the Winston Innovation Lab’s ongoing commitment to foster wellness across all Winston Prep campuses and programs.
The Fostering Wellness Initiative began in 2015 as a project focusing on middle and high school students in collaboration with the National Association for Independent Schools (NAIS). Members of the Winston Innovation Lab team joined many other organizations at the NAIS National Conference in February 2016 and participated in a panel discussion that brought initial data collected from a nationwide school wellness survey to other independent and public school leaders.
The Winston Innovation Lab began administering the Comprehensive School Climate Inventory (CSCI)–a survey created by the National School Climate Center (NSCC) – to Winston Prep families. The findings have helped in guiding efforts to promote a positive school climate for students and faculty.
Initial steps to promote wellness were taken by enhancing our own Qualities of a Sustainable and Independent Learner (WESS) survey, alongside our Lives Over Time research. Since 2015, the Fostering Wellness initiative has grown, continuing to support and educate the Winston Prep community through research, synchronous and asynchronous professional learning, guided conversations, and family outreach.
