Dear Winston Families, Colleagues and Friends,

Linking science and understanding to the skill remediation happening every day at each of our campuses is the work of the Winston Innovation Lab. Over the past few months, we have shared examples of formal professional learning opportunities the WIL provides the Winston Prep faculty such as the Teacher Excellence and Leadership Development (TELD) program and Winston 101.
Our weekly WIL Office Hour is another example of how the support of the Innovation Lab directly impacts the skill development of our students. Faculty and leaders from all campuses are invited to our weekly Office Hour as a way to keep up to date on new cognition and learning research and its applications while connecting and collaborating with the WIL team and fellow faculty and campus leaders. Each week, we center our 'Hour' on a specific topic based upon input from campuses. Faculty members join us with specific students in mind so that we can engage in a collaborative dialogue while explicitly applying the Continuous Feedback System, deepening instructors' understanding of how their students learn and why particular skills can be challenging for individual students. WIL team members share applicable current research related to understanding, assessing, and learning development and the discussion grows into best practice, research-based approaches to remediate a student's skills based upon our in-depth, diagnostic understanding. Participants are encouraged to come with their questions, thoughts, successes and challenges so that we can all share and learn from one another. Not only is the WIL Office Hour directly benefiting the individual students participants work with by linking instructors' deepened diagnostic understanding to explicit and research-based remediation, but it also facilitates faculty connections across all Winston Prep campuses, allowing for greater collaboration amongst teaching experts.

Sincerely,

Scott Bezsylko
