Theatre Arts/Language Skills/Literature & Focus Teacher- Long Island Campus

Winston Preparatory School is searching for excellent candidates for a full-time Theatre/Literature & Writing Teacher at the Long Island campus in Dix Hills. This position is for the 2024-2025 academic year. Experience with directing high school theatre, special education, teaching Literature & Writing, and working with students in group and 1:1 settings is desired. Winston Preparatory School is a co-ed private day school for 4-12th-grade students with learning differences such as dyslexia, nonverbal learning disabilities, expressive or receptive language disorders, and executive functioning difficulties. Essential Tasks

  • Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students in a positive environment
  • Instruct students in literature and writing using a variety of techniques such as phonetics, multi-sensory learning, and repetition to reinforce learning and to meet students’ varying needs and interests
  • Teach students in a classroom and 1:1 setting
  • Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all students
  • Meet with parents to discuss their children’s progress and to determine priorities for their children and their individualized educational needs
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports on children and activities, as required by laws, school policies, and administrative regulations
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students
  • Maintain professional competence by participating in staff development activities, curriculum development meetings, and other professional opportunities
  • Perform related work as required

Qualifications
  • Experience with directing high school theatre, special education, and teaching Literature & Writing
  • A Master’s degree is preferred
  • Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Highly professional, creative thinker who is flexible and works well within a team environment 
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Meet, and Classroom

The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $70,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience. This position requires the successful candidate to work in-person and on-campus in Dix Hills, NY.
