The Summer Enrichment Program at WPS is an extension of the WPS philosophy, principles and model that takes place during the summer months. It provides students with the unique opportunity to participate in an individually designed program aimed to enhance academic skills and foster independence.
Students from fourth through twelfth grades from private, public, mainstream, and special educational settings come to WPS seeking to improve their academic skills.
The morning academic program of the Summer Enrichment Program takes place Monday through Friday, from 8:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. during the month of July. Students are grouped according to skill level and learning style in small classes. Additionally, each student receives daily one-on-one instruction targeting areas of greatest need within Winston’s Focus program. The program is designed to develop language, encoding/decoding, reading comprehension, writing, math, test preparation, organization, and time management skills at each student’s appropriate level of engagement.
In addition to daily one-on-one Focus sessions, students attend the following courses for their summer program:
- Written Language
- Reading Comprehension or Decoding and Encoding
- Organization and Study Skills
Modified sessions are available upon request.
