Winston’s mission is to facilitate the independence of individuals with learning problems through assessment driven individualized education, research and outreach.
 
Winston Prep is a co-ed day school with campuses in New York City and Norwalk, CT. We offer an individualized education for 6th through 12th grade students with learning differences such as dyslexia, nonverbal learning disabilities, expressive or receptive language disorders and attention deficit problems. Many students are confronting a variety of these challenges. Winston Prep helps each student address those challenges and learn strategies to help them succeed. Winston teachers create an individually tailored program for each of the students as a means to reach their academic potential. Our Focus Program is unique and distinguishes a Winston education from all others. With Focus, each student spends one full period every day with a teacher whose expertise matches the student’s learning challenges. Focus is part of every student’s daily schedule and does not require the students to miss any other class. There is no other program, public or private, as intensive or as expertly staffed as our Focus Program. Comments from a WPS parent following our year end ceremonies: “Dear Scott, ... Three years ago we came, at our wits end and scared to our bones. We came with a damaged child, a child who expected nothing good to happen to him, a kid who thought nobody was ever going to like him, who considered himself stupid and “less than a zero”, who thought it was ok to be treated badly by his peers and who could not even write his name. I left today with a happy kid who is ready for mainstream high school and thinks about college and what he will do with his life. You gave me a decent young man, who cares about others, who thinks, who is independent, who is confident and who likes his life and one who can read and write. I don’t know how to say thank you. I am not sure what Alan’s future will hold and I don’t doubt that there are going to be rough patches, but I think he will carry what he has learned at Winston about himself and others with him for the rest of his life and be the better for it.
